Pekko® takes its name from the Finnish god of fields and crops. Although the flavors most widely associated with this newer variety are citrus, floral, tropical, and lemongrass, it became obvious in 2016 as an ideal substitute for Simcoe® Brand YCR 14 cv. As that variety is seldom available, Pekko® quickly grew in popularity. During the 2016 CBC in Philadelphia, it stole the show and brewers couldn’t get enough. Pekko® is an amazing hop in its own right. Used in a dry hopping in the Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine, it delivered notes of stone fruit, orange, lemon and mint to an already amazing beer.
